Haiti national gains asylum

Bagia & Associates successfully litigated an asylum claim for a Haitian national who fled his country to escape persecution three years ago. His friends and family were attacked, kidnapped and even murdered by supporters of deposed ex-president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the Western Hemisphere, and it is constantly churning with political unrest.

After embarking on an arduous journey from Haiti, he arrived on our shores seeking protection from his persecutors. Unfortunately, he was immediately detained upon arrival. His journey continued as he sought help from the Catholic Social Services and other attorneys. His case was too complicated, so he was referred to Bagia & Associates.

Our office spent the time needed to understand his situation, and to build the case. Although there were significant challenges with his claim for asylum, we anticipated the difficulties and guided the client onto the path that was most likely to be successful. He is now well on his way to a green card and citizenship.
